Many injuries due to busy schedule Premier League

The holidays are over, a new year has begun. Many football players have had a break; an opportunity to go see their families, go on a holiday, eat turkey, rest and recover. But not if you’re a Premier League footballer. It’s almost as if they have to make up for all the matches that aren’t being played during the holidays. Boxing Day, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Club World Cup – you name it. Of course, we benefit from it: thanks to Boxing Day we can spend an entire day, lazy and unapologetic on the sofa, enjoying some great football matches. But what about the football players?

With the exception of the Premier League, any other major European League take a few weeks off. In Spain, Italy and France, competitions all take three weeks off. In the Netherlands and Germany, the Eredivisie and Bundesliga shut down for nearly a month.

Liverpool on the other hand, played ten matches in one month (December). They even had to skip a match: Liverpool B played the Carabao Cup quarter-final due to the busy and literally overfull schedule.

Blessureleed

It is really ridiculous if you think about it. Many coaches have expressed their desire for a Premier League winter break. Especially since last Wednesday: in nine Premier League matches, twelve football players were injured – five players were from one team! During the Leicester City – Newcastle United match, four players had to be replaced. Of course, this is not allowed. Therefore, after a mere 50 minutes, Newcastle had to continue with ten players. Football player DeAndre Yedlin finished the match playing with a broken hand.

Nieuwe winterstop voor Premier League

This year, for the first time in the Premier League, a winter break will be implemented in the busy English football schedule. The break will only start in February; unfortunately, for many players too late. One round of the Premier League will now be straddled over two weekends, while the fifth round of the FA Cup is moved from 15 February to 4 March. For most team, the fixture changes will lead to a ten-day break. Manchester United and Chelsea will even have 16 days off.
