Behind closed doors

Coronavirus is spreading across the world. Businesses, events, concerts and football matches are affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. Normal life – including football – is on a hold…

Five Champions League-matches played behind closed doors. PSG-Borussia Dortmund (2-0) has already been played without fans, same as Valencia-Atalanta (3-4). Juventus-Olympique Lyon, Bayern Munich-Chelsea and FC Barcelona-Napoli will take place behind closed doors, too. For now, Manchester City-Real Madrid will be played with fans. But this might change…

More and more countries are rescheduling and cancelling events. Italy’s Serie A-matches were the first to be cancelled and postponed. Other matches are still being played, some behind closed doors, some still with fans.

"There’s no sense to playing games without fans."

Football without fans just isn’t football, that much is clear. As Pep Guardiola said earlier this week: ‘There’s no sense to playing games without fans’. The Spanish Premier League-coach thinks all football matches might as well be postponed.

UEFA Europa League matches Sevilla vs Rome, Internazionale vs Getafe and Basel vs Frankfurt have already been cancelled. What will happen with these matches? When will they be played? Will they be played at all? And what will the impact of the virus be on Euro 2020?

Only time will tell...
